Abandoned (broken beauty gallery)

“Even broken our light is beautiful.”
— Jason King, Photographer
“Abandoned spaces are sometimes the most beautiful, and certainly the most tragic. At one time the space was sparkling and new – built to suit a purpose, fulfill a dream, maybe engage a new beginning. Today they stand in decay, abandoned for the next big-new-thing or perhaps abandoned in desperation. But as they decay they create their own beauty and become a canvas for others creativity, frustration, love, and need to express.”

Gas Station
Vale, Oregon
July 2011
When I was a child, this was our family business. A small gas station and repair garage in the very small town of Vale. My father was a meticulous man, not only were the customer areas and restrooms as clean as could be, he also scrubbed the floor of the garage each day with ajax. In 1989 our family moved away and I didn’t see it again for 22-years. It was like seeing a ghost. It was also sad to see all of our family’s hard work reduced practically to rubble.
